Lisbet M.Hanson MD, FACOG

Lisbet Hanson, MD, FACOG has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology in Virginia Beach for over 20 years. For the past five years, she has concentrated exclusively on the practice of Gynecology. Dr. Hanson’s special interests lie in minimally invasive surgical treatment for gynecologic disorders, but she provides comprehensive GYN care including contraceptive and hormonal therapy, preconception health counseling, and both medical and surgical treatment for such issues as chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Originally from Vermont, Dr. Hanson has enjoyed living in Europe, Canada and the US. In pursuit of her first career as a professional ballet dancer she studied and performed at the Royal Swedish Opera Ballet, the National Ballet School of Canada and the North Carolina School of the Arts. She received her BA in Mass Communications from the University of Vermont and went on to get her MD at the College of Medicine at the same institution. In 1982, Dr. Hanson moved to Hampton Roads and completed her specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

In her free time, Dr. Hanson and her husband enjoy watersports, including sailing both locally and internationally. She has two children in college.  Dance continues to be a vital part of her life and Dr. Hanson enjoys sharing her talent and expertise with dance students and arts organizations locally. She is an active member of her church, starting a liturgical dance ministry and more recently, helping to develop a clean water source and medical programs for a twin parish in Haiti. When not busy with these commitments, Dr. Hanson enjoys gardening and "learning something new."
